Equality for Women and Men in Business
When it comes to equality between men and women there is still a fairly long way to go for women in the workplace. In most cases the senior management of companies is made up overwhelmingly of men. There are a few reasons for this; one is that the number of women with enough experience is limited. However the biggest reason remains the fact that women are still at a disadvantage in the workplace. While great strides have been made in improving the level of workplace equality there is still a long way to go in this regard.
One are in the world of business where there is more equality between men and women is when it comes to starting their own business. The main reason for this is that you are not dependent on somebody else for your success or failure. When you work for somebody else promotion depends on your boss. When you are running your own business you are responsible for the success or failure of your company. Your company will grow based on your own merits. That takes away a lot of the discrimination that women face in the workplace.
That being said there are still issues facing women when it does come to running their own business. Although the ultimate success of your company will depend in large part on you success in running it there are some other factors that come into play. The biggest areas are the fact that most companies need to get money from the bank or from investors in order to grow. If you encounter a bank manager or an investor who has issues with women running their own business you could have problems. There is also the reality that there are times when customers themselves may have issues with dealing with a woman. Although these issues are nowhere near as bad as they used to be the do still exist.
Another issue that women face when it comes to equality in starting a business is experience. Since most people who start a business learn the skills that they require in the workforce the fact that there are fewer women in senior management means that there are also fewer women with the skills required to start a business. Not only does this reduce their chances of success it also hurts their ability to get loans or find investors since one of the things that they consider is the experience of the person running the business.
In order to deal with the issues that women face when starting their own business most governments have created programs to help. These are usually in the form of grants for female owned companies. These grants are aimed at helping women to start and grow their businesses so that they can achieve equality with men in the workplace. While this hasn't happened yet we are lot closer to it than we used to be.
